DetailsThe flight bag straps are made custom, to order. The strap is made of 100% mohair. The mohair is all processed, spun and dyed, and then woven by hand, by me. The woven portion of the strap is about 10 inches long and around 3 inches wide. The hardware is stainless steel 316 welded D-ring. It is corrosion and rust resistant wit ha breaking load of 6170 pounds. The purpose of the strap is so that multiple bags can be clipped to the d-rings on each end and then easily be tossed over you shoulder to help balance the weight and allow multiple bags to be carried with one strap (clips and carabiners are not included). The flight bag straps are made with one continuous piece of yarn. There are no cuts or breaks to help insure the strength and integrity. Thank you for supporting Farm Two Forty with your purchasing of this product. This product is 100% hand made (minus any hardware). The fiber comes from Navajo Angora goats that are raised on our family farm in Georgia. The goats are sheared twice a year and produce the Mohair used in this product.
Mohair is considered a luxury fiber and should not be confused with Angora fiber which comes from rabbits. Mohair is as warm as wool although it is much lighter in weight making it ideal for traveling. Mohair is also desirable due to its warmth, durability and beauty. Mohair is similar to wool, although it does possess other unique properties not found in any other type of fiber. Mohair is almost non-flammable. When placed under, or near, a naked flame, it tends to shrivel into a bead like ash. Once taken away from the flame, burning stops instantaneously. Mohair can be twisted or bent without damaging the fiber. This is due to its structure, supporting the claim that it is the most durable of all animal fibers. Mohair will stretch an average 30% over its length and then will be able to spring back into shape. Due to this property, mohair garments resist wrinkling, stretching or sagging during wear. All natural fibers from animals have the ability to absorb and release atmospheric moisture. They breathe where man made fibers do not. Mohair is resistant to soiling. This property commends its use for woven fabrics, due to the fact that dust does not come to rest on slippery fibers. Shaking and brushing can easily remove any dust remaining on woven fabrics. Mohair possesses great strength. Diameter to diameter, it is stronger than steel.
Once the Mohair has been sheared from the goats it is processed by hand. The fiber is picked through to remove as much vegetable matter as possible. It is then washed multiple times in a large tub to remove all of the dirt and grime and then laid out to dry. Once the Mohair has been dried it is then carded, which is the process of brushing the fibers to prepare them for spinning. After the Mohair has been carded it is then spun into a single ply of yarn. The single ply of yarn can then be plied together to increase the thickness and strength of the yarn. The yarn is then dyed and woven by hand to create your product. -
